2019 Winter Writing Contest
It’s that time of year again! Consider participating in our annual Winter Writing Contest to win prizes! Using the given photo as inspiration, write an poem, short story, or creative writing piece from 50 – 1,000 words and submit it to firstname.lastname@example.org! Submissions will be accepted from January 15th to February 15th. To view the inspiration photo and learn more about the prizes and deadlines, please visit the 2019 Winter Writing Contest tab above! Our awards ceremony on March 2nd at 11:00am will also host a local young adult author to give tips and answer questions about writing! Ages 13-18.
Teen Tech Club
First Tech Challenge Team, a group of students between the age of 13 to 15 years, will be demonstrating their robots and talk about the engineering concepts and software programming used to make the robot on January 19th from 10-11am. Sahaja Yoga Meditation
Feeling stressed? Looking for a way to relax? The Sahaja Yoga meditation sessions are perfect for beginners. You will learn how to connect with your inner energy and achieve a state of peace. Learn to sketch and paint with watercolors from a local artist on January 25th from 10:30-11:30am. Materials provided. Cosponsored by the Friends of the Burke Centre Library. Age 12-18. Click here to sign up!
Want a chance to express your opinions in a safe environment? The Burke Library will have monthly sessions of the Democracy Cafe to provide a safe and judgement free zone in discussing topics of interest (political, social, mental, economical, environmental, historical, urban, etc). The December 8th session from 2-3 pm will be focused on the following topic: How can we improve services in our community and create positive experiences at school and home? Age 13-18.
Want to help your community? Learn how to make a hat using yarn and a loom under the instruction of local crafts artisans “Twisted Stitchers.” All hats will be donated to a local children’s hospital or shelter. You can even earn volunteer service hours for your participation! Our upcoming event is on December 29th from 10:30-12:00. You can check out the flyer here!
